Which Destiny 2 activities have matchmaking?

Thanks to fireteam size restrictions, a lack of in game LFG, and the realities of coordinating schedules with friends, it’s not unlikely that you’ll find yourself unprepared for some of the activities in Destiny 2.

Thankfully, Bungie has catered to those playing solo by increasing the amount of matchmade activities over the game’s life.

Below are all activities that provide seamless matchmaking as well as those that remain exclusive to those with premade groups.

Every activity in Destiny 2 with matchmaking

Truth be told, it’s never been a better time for those that rely on matchmaking to dive into Destiny 2’s hook of cooperative looting. As of New Light and Shadowkeep the following activities make it possible to forego external LFG resources:

  • Vanguard strikes
  • Nightfall strikes (750 and 920 Power)
  • Vex offensive
  • Menagerie
  • Gambit
  • Crucible
  • Black armory forges
  • Blind well (instance based)
  • Escalation protocol (instance based)
  • Sundial

In addition to Vanguard and some Nightfall strikes, players can also pair up with others when playing individual strikes. In most cases it makes sense to stick to strike playlists but selecting individual missions can help with story content, farming, or simply breaking away from monotony.

Destiny 2’s current preference towards matchmaking not only provides convenience for all, but also ensures that it continues to thrive in its newfound F2P model.

As much fun as I had with the Vault of Glass and King’s Fall raids I’ll be the first to admit that the type of activity can be incredibly time consuming and, at times, maddening. Most people just want to jump in and have some fun and banging your head against a wall for 5 hours is not that.

Activities that still require premade groups

While some activities still lack matchmaking, the good news is that the restriction is for the better. Communication and coordination are a must when tackling the game’s hardest content.

The convenience of quickly hopping into true end game content sounds incredible on paper but the process of navigating mechanics can mean wasting several hours to no avail. Matchmaking could never offer the coordination required let alone a group that sticks together for more than a few minutes.

Some of the end game activities that aren’t matchmade include:

  • Dungeons
  • Raids
  • Nightfalls (950 and 980 Power)

If you’re looking to complete the above end game activities and don’t have enough friends for a full fireteam, resources like reddit, Discord, and external LFG websites are you’re best bet for grouping up.
