By the time the Xbox Scarlett and PS5 release, Xbox’s Game Pass will be looked at as one of the pioneering video game services of the current generation. It’s a simple proposition – let players in on an all you can eat buffet of quality games, much like Netflix does with TV shows and movies, and charge a flat monthly fee.
Needless to say it’s a service that has caught on with many, and with new free trial deals cropping up nearly every month it’s always a great time to jump in.

Apart from being able to download and play games like Forza Horizon 4 for as long as your subscription is active, you also receive benefits like discounts when buying Game Pass games and their downloadable content. The depth of the discount depends on how long the game has been on the market.
Games that have been on the market between 31 and 90 days (2 and 3 months) will net you a 10% discount and games older than 3 months receive a 20% discount. But what about game discounts for those using a Game Pass trial?
I’m currently running on the 2 months for 2 dollars Game Pass trial and it looks like I’m eligible for the discounts just like paying subscribers. I tested it out by heading over to the Game Pass tab on the dashboard and clicking through to Quantum Break’s store page. I had the option to install it for free as well as buy it for 20% off since it initially launched well over 3 months ago.
I believe every Xbox One owner gets a 7 or 14 day free trial as long as they’ve never been a Game Pass member, so it’s not only a great way to try the service out, but also knock 20% off of a game you’ve been eyeing up on the Microsoft Store.
